National Climbing Federations vote at 2026 General Assembly to organize Extraordinary General Assembly in July 2026 to vote on the question of the suspension of the Israeli Climbing Federation
April 23rd, 2026
Following motions submitted by the Spanish and Italian federations concerning the membership status of the Israel Sport Climbing Federation, and a separate motion from the Ukrainian federation regarding Russian and Belarusian participation, World Climbing decided the 2026 General Assembly was not an adequate space to organize the vote due to the fact that it was now being held virtually. The 2026 General Assembly, originally planned as an in-person meeting in Saudi Arabia, was moved online due to the regional security situation following the USA and Israel’s bombing of Iran and Lebanon.
Based on a proposal from the Executive Board, federations voted in favor of convening an Extraordinary General Assembly in July 2026, where the questions of the participation and membership status of Israel, Russia, Belarus, and other affected federations will be considered in greater detail and potentially put to a vote.
